The Healing Power of Reiki

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a form of healing where the practitioner uses the power of an unseen universal life force energy. The term originates from the Japanese “rei,” meaning universal, and “ki,” which means essential life force energy that flows through all living things. This energy is harnessed through the practitioner’s body and directed by intention to the client.

Get to know the practice…

At Your Spirit Animal, practices in the mystical arts help to provide clarity and creativity to anyone who needs it! As a Reiki Master, I have personally found this energy healing practice to be one of the most rewarding opportunities. It not only aids in relieving ailments that are holding people back from their fullest potential, but it relaxes an anxious mind, which many people suffer. If you are looking to reach great new heights in your creative potential, Reiki will get you there!

For anyone unfamiliar with the practice of Reiki, the following questions will help to clarify and guide your understanding.

For what purpose is Reiki practiced?
Traditionally, if your “life force energy” is off balance then you are more inclined to suffer an illness, depression, or general apathy. When Reiki is administered, the practitioner infuses each client with “life force energy” thereby filling up an empty tank.

A Reiki session or self-practice is capable of relieving chronic symptoms, relaxation, stress relief, and improving your general outlook on life.

Reiki supports:
  • faster healing
  • detoxification
  • immunity
  • a peaceful state of relaxation
  • general well-being
  • tension reduction
  • restful sleep
  • pain relief
  • removing energy blockages
  • a connection with higher vibrations
What does a Reiki session feel like?
All of my Reiki sessions have been a wonderful experience. According to Reiki.org, “A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing. Many have reported miraculous results.” These results are not atypical. I sometimes develop a headache after treatment as negativity moves out of the body. It’s very important to drink lots of water to flush out any unwanted material. Water will help alleviate uncomfortable feelings as well.

Is Reiki a religion?

As Reiki is abundantly available in all living things, this energy source is not associated with a specific religion or nationality. The idea of our modern Reiki practice was developed in the early 1900’s Japan by a man named Mikao Usui. His practice spurred other practices, but none are central to any specific religion. Reiki is for everyone and everything.

How does Reiki work?

Reiki is rather simple when broken down. The Reiki practitioner allows the energy to flow into the client. The energy is not coming from the client but is being harnessed from Source and directed through the practitioner to the patient. Usui Reiki is very structured in its movements, but there are other practices that are more intuitive.

Reiki treatments typically last around 50-60 minutes. Reiki is not massage, rather an infusion of universal life force energy. Therefore, the client is completely clothed and the practitioner either lays hands on the client or gently hovers above the body. This is a personal preference. If the client is uncomfortable with being touched, that should be respected.

During the session healing, relaxation, and well-being flow. A client may feel a tingling sensation or gentle warming. It is even possible to fall asleep as the peaceful relaxation completely overtakes the body.

Should Reiki be used instead of traditional medicine or therapy?

No, if you need medical treatment then you should seek medical treatment immediately. Reiki is a complement to traditional medicine and therapy. It will help with healing and relaxation. This allows the body and mind to work more effectively.

Clients often find that Reiki leads them to seek medical attention or therapy by bringing up issues that were unhealed or misdiagnosed.

Can I practice Reiki?

Yes! As I stated earlier, Reiki is for everyone and that includes YOU.

If you wish to obtain your Reiki certificate, then I can help with that. Your Spirit Animal is working on 3 levels of certification in Reiki. Each training will build upon the one before and you can go as far along the path as you wish. The upcoming trainings are:
